Director General - Scott Harris
The Mountain State Forest Festival has announced that Scott W. Harris, DC, has been appointed as the director general of the 75th festival. Experiences with the festival include being assistant director for the past four years overseeing many different events. Before he was assistant director, he also volunteered on several event committees.
Dr. Harris is a graduate of Elkins High School and West Virginia Wesleyan College. He then attended New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls, New York. After Graduation he returned to West Virginia and worked in the Charleston area for a year and a half. In 2004, he returned to Elkins and opened Harris Family Chiropractic.
He has a rich history associated with the festival. His family has served as volunteers for the Mountain State Forest Festival in many capacities for three generations, and he was a train bearer in the 51st forest festival.
"After serving as a train bearer I realized how special the festival is and how many volunteers and work goes into it," Harris said. "When returning to Elkins, I looked forward to have the opportunity to give time to the Forest Festival."
The theme "Celebrating Family Memories" has been chosen by Harris for the 75th festival.
"I am very excited to be chosen as the director for the 75th festival," Harris said. "When choosing a theme that would represent the 75th anniversary of the Mountain State Forest Festival, I felt it should be thought of as a celebration. And I know my family, as well as many others in the area, have many great memories of past festivals."
Dr. Harris lives in Elkins and is married to Christina Harris. He has one son, Andrew, and one daughter, Kayla.
He is a member of the First United Methodist Church, Elkins Rotary and is on the Advisory Board of the EMS. He also enjoys volunteering for the Boy Scouts of America and is an Eagle Scout.
"I am looking forward to working with the board of directors, executive director and most of all the assistant directors of the Mountain State Forest Festival," he said. "A great group of experienced and hard working people have been assembled to celebrate this 75th Mountain State Forest Festival."
