Geocaching
The Mountain State Forest Festival Geocaching event is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants will travel to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the cache (container) hidden at that location.
The event officially began at 3:00 pm on Friday, July 13. At that time, participants will be able to search for five caches scattered around the Elkins area. The containers will be hidden at prominent Festival event venues.
Treasure hunters will be seeking small, plastic containers. The location of the first container is given below. Inside this container will be the location of the second cache and a short clue on how to find it. This process will continue to find the 3rd, 4th and 5th container.
The fifth container will contain an e-mail address and a phone number that can be reached to leave contact information for a prize. Also the fifth cache will have information for a future challenge. Please be courteous and place the container back in the exact location where it is found so the next person may enjoy the search.
The containers will be collected on Monday, September 24. All the names will be entered into a random drawing to be held on that date. The
winner(s) will be selected for prizes/treasures and will then be notified of their winnings.
Below are the coordinates for the first geocache:
N 38° 55.834' W 079° 51.908'
Good luck and have fun!
