Geocaching
The 75th Mountain State Forest Festival is pleased to announce Geocaching as a new event for this year. Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants will travel to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the cache (container) hidden at that location.
The event will officially begin at 9:00 am on Monday, July 4th. At that time, participants will be able to search for five caches scattered around the Elkins area. The containers will be hidden at prominent Festival event venues.
Treasure hunters will be seeking small, plastic containers. Each container has an identifying label on the lid and an instruction label inside the lid. Each person who finds the caches will be able to leave their name and phone number on a card inside the container. Please be courteous and place the container back in the exact location where it is found so the next person may enjoy the search.
The containers will be collected on Monday, September 26. All the names will be entered into a random drawing to be held on that date. Five winners will be selected for prizes/treasures and will then be notified of their winnings.
Coordinates for the caches can be found at www.geocaching.com. Browse for the caches by searching for Elkins, WV and looking for MSFF1, MSFF2, etc.
